Hi George

I can't really believe it has been 8 months since the Training Day! My training has gone well and I am on course for my next race which is the 10 mile Great South in Portsmouth at the end of the month. I have run an 8 mile in readiness for the big day!

By putting some of your principles in to action I have reduced my minute mile rate by 20 seconds, which is good for me! This was mainly due to putting in an extra effort session, but also I am doing core exercises most days which I feel helps.

Also when I am tired at the end of a run and my head is down, I can hear you telling me to lift my head to help with my breathing. Even though I am usually thinking bad words in my head by then I find it really does work!

Thank you for the session which was very beneficial and has helped me a lot.

Kind Regards

Maureen Watkins

Hi George,

My training has gone well all summer - my pb for 10k was 44.30 when I met you on the Dublin training day and it's now 42.08 and i'm hoping to hit 41 by the end of 2009. My 5k pb has dropped from 21.30 to 19.12.

My flexability and strenght has improved a lot since the Dublin training day from doing the stretched and core exercises that you gave us.

Thanks for all the e mails and updates - they are a great help in keeping motivated - keep them coming.

Roy

Hi George,

You would be pleased with the way our training has changed since we came as a group to your running workshop in July. We no longer do static stretches before starting to run. Instead we work on raising the heart rate plus some dynamic stretches. We have included some variable pace running each week in our training with hill repeats about every fortnight. We have even invested in a set of coloured spacers for when we do tidal intervals! Some of our stretches after finishing our runs cause quite a few stares still! We all feel quite evangelical about sustaining the changes we have made.

Nine of us have just taken part in the Royal Parks half marathon using the intermediate programme which you produced for the Reading HM. (We had followed the beginners programme for Reading). All but one person produced a PB. I knocked over 4 minuted off my Reading time, coming in at 2.13, still feeling fairly comfortable and with no major aches or pains the next day. As I tired in the latter part of the run I remembered the piece of string and relaxed my shoulders and jaw. It really helped and I was able to increase my pace again for the final mile. I am sure that in my next half marathon I will come in at under 2.10.

Thanks again for all the sound advice!

Ann

Limited spaces on all Training Day workshops

Unfortunately there is a strict upper limit on the group size for this workshop, which means once the places are gone, they're gone for good. If this webpage is still online, you can take it that there are still places available. As soon as the workshop is full I will be pulling it down, so if you're thinking of booking on, don't delay!
