Nobody likes taking risks

I've invested in countless courses and workshops over the years and whilst most have been fantastic value for money and well worth the time spent attending, a few have been absolute stinkers and a complete waste.

I HATE it when this happens to me and I would hate it even more if you felt it was happening to you on one of my workshops!

I am so sure that your running will benefit from attending the workshop, that if you get to the end of the workshop and are not absolutely convinced that your running will improve I will gladly and personally refund every penny of your investment.

No questions asked and no hard feelings, I want you to be absolutely sure that you have made the right decision in attending this running workshop.

What you can expect

The Training Day will be hosted by George Anderson, fitness advisor to the Reading Half Marathon.

The number one aim of the Day is to help you form a set of the most effective, proven strategies for running faster. Some of the sessions we will be covering during the workshop include:

  • Running Technique. If you imagine running whilst touching the ground with your hands at every step, you would probably agree that this is pretty inefficient. Now imagine lifting your hands from the ground but having them dangle down by your knees. More efficient than having them touch the ground, but still a long way off optimal. Now imagine your own running style: far more efficient than running with your hands down by your knees - but can it be improved on even further? The answer is YES!

Improving your technique can optimise your efficiency, using the force of gravity to literally pull you forwards. In one of the key components of the Training Day, you will learn the art of efficient running with a mixture of theoretical workshops and practical runs outside to practice the new style.
  • Body Conditioning. A common misconception among runners is that to become faster, you just need to do more running. Whilst the running is important, so too is including regular body conditioning training in your routine.

Whilst you could just join a gym and sit on the machines for half an hour each week, there is a much more effective way to specifically improve the strength and stability of your running muscles. These exercises and stretches require no equipment and can be done in just a few minutes through the week but they will have an enormous effect on your running speed and protection from injury.

George Anderson is a body conditioning expert, presenting at national fitness conventions and holding running workshops in both the UK and Ireland.
  • Running nutrition. More confusion surrounds the subject of running nutrition than perhaps any other, which is why we will be setting the record straight.

George Anderson will lead you through the minefield of diets and advice doing the rounds these days to give you straight-down-the-line information you can take away and start using immediately. You will learn how much carbohydrate, protein and fat you should be consuming and the best sources of these nutrients, the importance of sufficient hydration, the myths behind carb loading and what to eat and drink on the run.
  • Running psychology. Whatever your level of running, you can use your mind to get more out of each session. How you approach your training, goal setting and performance can determine by much and how quickly you are going to progress. Your thought process is also important when you are dealing with injuries or other setbacks.

You will learn simple yet laser-focused strategies for improving your running mindset; useable strategies you can take away and immediately start applying to everything from the way you set your goals to how you "self-talk" during your runs.
  • Running sessions. It wouldn't be much of a running workshop without some actual running involved! There will be 2 runs over the course of the workshop, each one designed to demonstrate a particular element of training, whilst giving you an opportunity to practice your new running technique.

The sessions are designed to accommodate all abilities, from beginner runner to competitive athlete, with the focus being on understanding and improving, rather than trying to keep up with everybody else.
  • Running theory. The Training Day is an educational session designed to arm you with information to make the best choices with your training in the months and years to come.

You will leave at the end with a good understanding how your body works, how a training program is put together and the theory behind different types of running session. More importantly you will have the ability to apply this knowledge to your training to achieve results.
